The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts set up the Center for Applied Research at Universities (ZAFH) MikroSens at THU in 2015. Together with other university partners and Ulm University, the ZAFH is developing radar sensors for various applications (including intelligent mobility) and is transferring this technology in particular to SMEs, which are involved via an industrial advisory committee.
Thanks to the ZAFH, it was possible to acquire further research projects – enabling the laboratory infrastructure at THU for driver assistance system sensors to be significantly developed and extended (terahertz sensor technology). Further projects, jointly with Ulm University and the UN, are working on search systems for land mines, developing radars for surface currents, and using radar sensors for detecting objects when charging electric vehicles.
