With progressive industrialisation and technological innovation, the need for energy is increasing, whereas supplies of fossil fuels are dwindling.New and profitable solutions are required, and regenerative energy sources will play an important role. This applies both to private dwellings and the operation of industrial plants.Engineers who are familiar with the conventional energy supply sector and who know how to handle the opportunities provided by regenerative energy sources will be needed – to create and implement integrative concepts.
In a practically-oriented engineering education, the degree programme Energy Systems Technology (EST) will give you the tools to meet these challenges. In seven semesters, it will teach you what you need to know about renewable energies, as well as methods for reducing energy consumption and the rational use of energy. At the heart of the course is the design, building and operation of modern energy systems. The degree programme focuses particularly on current developments such as combined heat and power, solar power, wind and hydro power as well as energy storage systems.
You can also take this degree programme with the Ulm Model or with in-depth practical experience.

Prerequisites
A prerequisite for the degree programme EST is an entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences, a subject-specific higher-education entrance qualification, a general qualification for university entrance or a comparable qualification. From the winter semester 2016/17 onwards, a pre-study internship is no longer required to register for the degree programme EST.
Furthermore, a fundamental interest in technology is an important prerequisite for this degree programme and for your career later on.Are you enthusiastic about seeking alternatives to conventional energy generation methods? Do you want to contribute to ensuring we have a secure and sustainable energy supply in the future, which, in the long term, manages without finite fossil fuels? Then EST is an appropriate and exciting degree subject for you.
Course schedule
The course is split into basic and advanced studies.Five elective modules in the sixth and seventh semesters permit the course to be adapted individually to your own interests and intended career path.In this way, you can structure your course entirely according to your personal preferences. The degree programme EST concludes with a Bachelor of Engineering after seven semesters.

Career prospects
As a graduate of this degree programme, energy supply companies, industrial operations and engineering offices specialising in energy planning and technology will be able to offer you interesting work and career prospects. You will also find opportunities in research, development and design for industrial companies which manufacture energy plants.Due to increasing energy prices in the future, growing interest in energy consulting and energy management systems for private residences, housing associations, in local authorities, government agencies and in industry is opening up other career options. What's more, your engineering education and the fact that energy is a central theme running through all sectors of technology, means that every industrial company is a potential employer.
Against the backdrop of the coming energy transition, it is reasonable to assume that there will be an additional need for engineers with expertise in energy.Graduates of the degree programme EST are therefore highly sought-after.
