In the context of Industry 4.0, production and logistics are based on cyber-physical components that flexibly cooperate in order to realize an efficient production process. In turn, these components utilise techniques from cognitive computing to make decentralised decisions. In general, the efficiency of any production logistics system depends on the implementation and configuration of its components. The design of such a system and the modelling of the behaviour of its intelligent components influence each other. In turn, this significantly increases the design complexity of factory planning. Project P8 aims to develop systems engineering methods for planning and configuring smart factories.
