Today, information technology is a central part of our lives: the app on your smartphone, the car that responds to your voice commands, the robot that automatically mows your lawn. It penetrates all parts of life and is an indispensable interdisciplinary technology in business, industry and technology. The devices are becoming ever more complex – but they should be simple to operate. Finding solutions that work intuitively is the task of computer science.
There is a broad range of topics awaiting you on the seven semester course: covering IT security, mobile computing, technical computing, software engineering, computer graphics and robotics, as well as information systems in medicine and in industry. Depending on your interests, you can select two out of a total of eight focus topics, structuring your studies according to your preferences.

Prerequisites
You can apply for the degree programme Computer Science (INF) if you have an entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences, a subject-specific higher-education entrance qualification, a general qualification for university entrance or a comparable qualification.
To solve problems in information technology, you need in-depth knowledge about programming languages and programming methods, software engineering, operating systems and databases, as well as about computer networks. You will learn about all of these in the degree programme Computer Science (INF).
Therefore, a fundamental interest in computers is another important prerequisite for this degree programme and your career later on. You should be open to technical questions and able to think logically.
You will find it useful at the start if you have already worked with a computer. However this is not a prerequisite we insist upon.
A good knowledge of English is an advantage.
Course schedule
Over a total of seven semesters, in this degree programme you will receive a thorough grounding in the core subjects of computer science and mathematics, as well as in auxiliary subjects in the fields of business studies and the humanities.
A particular feature of the degree programme are the elective modules which enable you to structure your course individually, according to your personal inclinations.
There are a total of eight focus topics on offer, out of which you can choose two subjects matching your interests:
Furthermore, you also have the option to spend up to two semesters at a partner university abroad, without extending the duration of your course. Comprehensive project work and a practical semester in a company (starting halfway through the 6th semester and lasting until halfway through the 7th semester) will ensure your course has practical relevance. The Bachelor thesis follows directly after the practical semester. After successful completion of this degree programme you will be awarded the academic degree title "Bachelor of Science".

Career prospects
A Computer Science (INF) degree is one of the most versatile qualifications in existence. This means your subsequent career opportunities are correspondingly diverse and exciting. Later on, you will be able to take on research, development and project management tasks just as well as service and consultancy activities. You can find employment in institutes and companies specialising in data processing and computer technology (hardware and software), those providing IT services, or in consulting companies. However, due to the proliferation of technology, you will also be sought-after in the health sector or in administration (e-government).
The career prospects for computer science graduates are currently excellent and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
The Cologne Institute for Economic Research reported in its "STEM spring report 2015", that the demand for workers in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) sector was more than a total of 47 per cent across Germany in April 2015. This particularly applies to the economic hub of Ulm, where numerous – also international – companies are located, such as the Daimler Research Centre, Siemens or Airbus Defence & Space (formerly Cassidian). These are among the potential employers for graduates of computer science degree programmes.
